Things you should do to protect yourself online
- Change your privacy settings so they are secure and only people you trust can see your information.
- Change your password a lot and make it secure.
- Don't post personal information. Ex- home address, phone number and birth date.
- Don't give out your credit card information.
- Know who can view your posts and don't post stuff you don't want certain people to see.
- Only accept your real friends, not friends of friends.
- Don't post pictures you wouldn't want your boss or your parents to see.
- Don't download from random websites.
- Don't fill out forms on websites that ask for personal information.
- Don't send messages or e-mails that you will regret later.
- On social sites, only put enough information so that your friends can identify you but do not put too many details.
- Don’t open spam messages and delete them right away.
- Make sure you log-out or else anyone can access your account.
- Have an alternate e-mail for registering accounts on websites you haven't been to.
- Don't give out personal information on sites that say you have won a prize.
- Only shop online if the website is secure and you recognize the brand.
- Keep track of your online finances and make sure it's the right amount.
